- Angela Wee / Principal Associate Concertmaster of the Metropolitan Opera Orchestra

My experience at TMAF has continually and distinctly been invaluable to my career. It was the inaugural summer in 2019 and right away, I knew it was going to be a good time. TMAF is a nurturing place of many resources and clear transparency to the professional realm. It is a direct line to experience the multi-layered generations of an enduring music community. The experience of performing alongside professionals sparked my interest to search deeper into what musical excellence entails and my personal goals became clearer as a result of witnessing committed artists collaborate to produce something so personal and special. The abundant opportunities — private lessons, masterclasses, mock auditions, chamber coachings, orchestra rehearsals, etc provided safe grounds to improve and exercise our curiosity.

Because of TMAF, I gained another perspective of humanity in a form that embraces community, devotion, and the power of the present moment. Good company paired with great music will keep you going a long time. I am honored and indebted to TMAF for the deep friendships, hilarious memories, and a summer that will always have a place in my heart.

- Ya-Chun Yang / Concertmaster of the Taipei Symphony Orchestra

The most influential music festival in my life is the TMAF. I have participated in three years of the festival since its inception, and these three years have been a crucial turning point in my life. What I find particularly unique and valuable about TMAF is the relationship between the faculty and students. It goes beyond a typical teacher-student dynamic, especially when it comes to the final concert performance. On stage, the experience transcends the traditional framework of teaching and learning. The faculty at TMAF are not only outstanding performers but also excellent educators. They deeply understand that playing and ensemble work are never just about one-sided instruction or simple cooperation. They know that a great performance is all about a dynamic exchange, where ideas are passed back and forth, inspiring musical creativity together.
